Teacher Sabbatical
sabbatical to volunteer at an Aogaah Foundation® school to develop curriculum and train Cambodian
(Khmer) teachers provides the ultimate opportunity for grown in both of these areas.
Share your expertise:
You are invited to take a sabbatical in Cambodia and work with Aogaah to advance your career, your
teaching methodologies of the Cambodian educational system. Basically, you would be observing the
instruction and then working with the Aogaah teachers to augment the instruction. Working with a
Khmer teacher, you will be able to test your ideas directly with the students.
Return with a new depth of understanding and empathy:
The submersion in a new culture will return the teacher to his or her home school with an awareness
and understanding of the world at a depth which is no other way attainable. The returning teacher will
bring to his/her home students a greatly enhanced understand of the power derived from diversity.
Western students appreciate what they have in their home country. But it is a 'learned' appreciation.
For students who have not left the borders of their own country, direct exposure to a teacher who
has experienced an impoverished culture will be invaluable. Free education, equality, true
democracy, the availability of meaningful employment, the opportunity to become anything you want to
become - - Western reality but not even a dream for many outside developed countries. Come see,
come feel, come experience how the rest of the world lives. Then go back home better equipped to
enhance the lives of your students.
The ability to observe and relate:
You do not need to know Khmer, the language of Cambodia. You just need endless energy and a
desire to help others.
This will be a mutually beneficial experience. During your sabbatical experience, Aogaah will tap your
knowledge, experience and expertise to help the local Khmer teachers refine their day to day lessons
and methods.
In Cambodia, working with Aogaah, you will see what tourists rarely see. You will experience what
Westerners rarely experience. You will be submerged into one of the most difficult teaching
environments known and you will truly hone your teaching skills.
Aogaah can not help you with expenses but will provide you with opportunity and adventure. See the
web pages Visit Cambodia and Living in Cambodia for more local information.
