Student Teaching
Become 'Real':
Student Teaching is where the new tire finally hits the highway.
You have spent countless hours in the classroom looking towards the front. Now it is time to stand up
front and look at the students. This is your opportunity to become 'real'.
Ultimate Opportunity:
Student Teaching in Cambodia at an Aogaah School will give you opportunity to implement knowledge
from years of study and to cultivate your natural ability. You will be submerged in one of the most
difficult teaching environments known.
Some of your ideas will work. Great! As a student teacher, you will be up-lifted by developing
materials and strategies that help students meet the objectives.
Some of your ideas will not work. Now you will need to fix the lesson. Make the lesson work. From the
re-write and the re-test, you develop professionally. For each failed idea in student teaching comes
many great techniques that will last your professional lifetime.
Working with Aogaah, you will be able to unleash your imagination. You will have virtually nothing to
work with (financially). This forces your innate abilities into overdrive.
You will teach and you will be loved. The children will not think of you as a student teacher. The
children will see you as a master teacher and as a friend who has come from a distant country to help
them attain a better life. They will carry you in their heart forever.
Needs:
All you need is endless energy and a desire to help others.
You do not need to know Khmer, the language of Cambodia. You will work with a Cambodian (Khmer)
teacher. You will be able to write lessons, develop materials and then implement and test your ideas.
Except for money, there are few constraints.
In addition to teaching experience, you will be submersed into a culture that most have only read
about. Working with Aogaah, you will see what tourists rarely see. You will experience what
Westerners rarely experience. You will return to your home country with an understanding of the
world otherwise unattainable. You will truly have an appreciation for all aspects of the life you grew
up in, from the rule of government to the freedoms so taken for granted.
Your life will never be the same.
Aogaah can not help you with expenses but will provide you with opportunity and adventure. See the
web pages Visit Cambodia and Living in Cambodia for more local information.
